Drooling... literally over... In the Month of Feb... Part 2

One of the best find JW and I stumbled upon... in good old heartland... Ang Mo Kio...

OnT Thai Authentic Restaurant...

More of a cafe... only about 5 or 6 tables... than a restaurant... OnT Thai features a pretty wide range of Thai dishes...

Authentic.... in taste... is subjective...

Never as yummy as those in BKK... Nonetheless... JW and I both enjoyed the Tom Yam Seafood Clear Soup... Green curry with lots of chicken dark meat... and Red Ruby dessert...

The otah was a little too soft for our liking and the seafood pancake lacklustre...

But still worth a visit when craving for Thai while in AMK...

Blk 532 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 #01-2495 Tel: 6457 1020

The other find was this little known bakery...

Ban Hoe Hong Bakery...

Their cream puffs are probably as yummy... if not more... as Bread Papa's...

Creamy custard jammed packed in soft buttery tasting puff skins... sprinkled with powdered sugar... for a mere S$1.00!!!

In fact... it was so yummy... JW and I went back the following day to get some more for the family...

As well as their... S$1.00 each.. peach custard tart and eclairs... which turns out to be just average...

Conclusion... stick to the custard puffs...

Some other food items that stole our hearts... and waistline...

Mc Donald's latest addition...
Goodbye McNuggets... Hello McBites

Diaso finds... Made in Japan..

Drooling... literally over... In the Month of Feb... Part 1

Actually... more like the month of Fat...

Even before I could say goodbye to those extra pounds I gained over CNY in Jan...

I am saying hello to a few new pounds... all thanks too...

Aston's Double Up Chicken - Fried & Hickory...
potato salad... mushroom soup
in celebration of my 11th year anniversary with JW...
on Valentine's Day

More Pine garden's goodies...

Clockwise from left...
lychee flavoured sugar rolls scraps S$2/...
 tapioca kueh S$1.50...
curry chicken bun S$1.10...
curry potato bun S$0.90...
luncheon meat bun S$1.10...
ang ku kueh S$2.10...

The ang ku kueh... like the tapioca... is YUMMY!!! The skin was thin and gooey... with ample fillings of salted green bean or peanuts... YUMMY... YUMMY... YUMMY...!!!

The sugar roll with the lychee jam was refreshing and different from the usual sugar rolls... even though they were just scraps... Value for money...

The buns... while... soft and fresh... were just ordinary...

In conclusion... we will just stick to their kuehs and cakes from now...

JW's Signature Grilled Ham & Cheese sandwiches for supper...
Yes... Supper...
What were we thinking???

Paul's Bakery... the famous 100 over years old french patisserie & bakery... at Ngee Ann City...

Paul's Bakery's selections

After all the hype... and queuing...

Chocolate Croissant & Chocolate Cake

Well... in my humble opinion... it's not all what it's being raved about... the croissant/danish was alright... I thought  Kaiser's croissant/danish at Scott's Square was better... the chocolate cake tasted rich and moist... but for the price point... I paid about S$8.30 for both...I could get the same satisfaction from this...

Pancake King... Moist... Rich...Chocolate Walnut Cake...
S$2.50
Rivals any french bakery's...

The House of Robert Timms... Super yummy comfort food at affordable pricing... let's just say... I wished I could eat there everyday.... since they have all day breakfast items on their menu... HEART!

3 way toast... waffle fries... ham quiche...

okay... maybe not everyday... because than I won't be able to enjoy...

curry vegetables... chicken rendang... mutton curry... omelette
and my fave Malay dish... tempe goreng... from the famous... malay store
at Tanjong Pagar Center... all these for just S$18!!!

or this...

Tsuru Koshi... Ngee Ann City basement... springy udon and
crispy prawn and vegetable kakiage...
I had curry because they were out of my fave...
Hiyashi tan tan udon...

But that's not all...

Drooling... literally over... Pine Garden's Cakes & Pastries

While looking at Pine Garden's display counter... loaded with different flavors of exotic cakes...

JW and I were spoilt for choice...

After promising ourselves that we can always come back again... we finally settled on 4 slices of cakes... 3 mini fruit tartlets... and 1 piece (actually 3 slices) of tapioca cake...

The mini tartlets... had soft... melt in your mouth pastry... that was buttery in taste... yet it did not overpower the taste of the filling... blueberry was our fave... with apple (actual bits of crunchy apples) being a close contender... The pineapple was alright... I will stick with traditional pineapple tarts any day... At S$0.70 each... I think I will save my money for their cakes instead...

The tapioca slices... actually tasted like tapioca!!! Nothing artificial about it... It was firm but not hard...and at S$1.50...  a must try for fans of kuehs...

Now the cakes... Not only are they pretty to look at... they are yummy too...

Pulot Hitam... coconut milk cream between layers of sponge cake... it was rich yet not coy... with the pulot hitam giving it some texture and crunch...

Citron... our fave!!!... light and tangy lemon cream... contrasted with tart lemon jam... in between... the very fragrant... balanced with just the right amount of sweetness... lemon chiffon... makes it a very refreshing cake to enjoy...

Chocolate... a disappointment... it was just plain old chocolate cake... Yes... it had a rich chocolate taste... Yes... it was not overtly sweet... Yes... it was very worthwhile for the price... But no surprises or added punch... over expectations on our part???

Lychee Martini... a perennial fave... it of course... did not disappoint...

For cakes of such quality... in this day and age... one would expect to pay at least S$4 - S$6 or more for each slice...

BUT... no...

They only cost S$2.50 per slice!!!

Yup... just S$2.50 per slice... for all the different flavors... including the liqueur ones!!!

Jean-Jacques Rosseau's... Marie Antoinette probably would not have lost her head... when she uttered her famous... "LET THEM EAT CAKE ".... if Pine Garden's was around...

Drooling over... Marc By Marc Jacobs Special Items

MBMJ special items... other than the US stores... in particular New York... are only available in very very limted stocks and design in Hong Kong, Japan and now... London...

Which makes them totally drool worthy... not just because of it's exclusiveness and relative short run... the price point is also very reasonable...

Some items I am drooling over...

Agenda in leather and faux croc... Gunmetal tote... Translation ID case... padlock... razor... fist necklaces... and my fave... must get my hands on... suede leather twisted bracelet with MJ gunmetal clasp... in wine, tan, purple & black...

I heart the wine and black...

How Cute Is That... Seventeen Magazine GWP... Rilakkuma Pouch

I just couldn't resist picking up Japanese magazine... Seventeen March 2012... from Kinokuniya this week... stocks came in last week... because of... what else but the GWP...

It's Rilakkuma... I heart this little super relax... silly bear from Japan...

The GWP is very well made... with an attention to details... to the extend of the little brown zipper pull (albeit fake) on Rilakkuma's back...

Only the head.. lined in pink cotton... with a pink Rilakkuma name sake printed ribbon on the zipper pull... opens up for storage... but other than some coins and a key or 2... it's too small for anything else...

But like I said... How can I resist Rilakkuma... especially when it comes with a ball chain for me to use as as a bag charm...

Still available in super limited stock at Kinokuniya... S$17.40 before member discount... It's a... only because it's... Rilakkuma steal...

My Shopping Conquests... Online... Marc By Marc Jacobs Special Items

Guess what came in the mail this week...

Marc by Marc Jacobs... Special Items... that I ordered online from New York thru eBay...

MBMJ SP agenda holder... made of genuine leather... the holder features MJ zipper pull, 6 card slots and a note book... Marc Jacobs embossed on the inside...

I intend to use this... to store my cash and cards... Rather than a wallet... always preferred pouches and holders... so much more easier to stuff it full of... cash ( I wished... ha ha ha) receipts and what not....

MBMJ SP Translation ID case... made of genuine leather... the case is embossed with the words 财 富 which is wealth....and the translation in French and Italian...in sliver on one side... Marc Jacobs on the other...

Chi-nah perfect for my many Ez-link card... since I don't drive... Public transport is my only mode of getting around... and I keep one in each bag so I always have one with me...

MBMJ SP belt... made of genuine leather... the belt features a Marc Jacobs etched brass... buckle... hardware... textured... python like... belt strap...

My very 1st MBMJ belt!!!

All in all... I think I got these at a steal... considering these are available only at selected MBMJ stores worldwide...

I paid only S$16 for the ID case... S$35 each for the agenda and belt... including shipping.

Kawaii neh... Bottled Tea with GWP

While in Japan... I found and bought some bottled teas... from different brands... that had really cute GWPs attached on their caps...

Most were small but very intricately detailed... well made... hand phone charms... part of a collection... of 6 or 8 designs....

Lipton Lemon Tea... Pastries Collection... These 2 fruit tarts...mixed berries & banana creme... were the only designs I liked from the collection...

Suntory Premium Oolong Tea... The Peninsula Tokyo Sweets Collection... Chocolate Bear... I picked this up from a mini convenience store outside of Asakusa station...There was only 1 bottle left on the the heated shelf and it was the only 1 I ever saw!!! I guess these must be really popular... considering that The Peninsula Tokyo is famous for their high teas and sweets/pastries...

But not all were hand phone charms...

Ito En Green Tea... Rilakkuma bottle 'opener' that... not only can twist open a bottle cap but is able to 'work' the tabs on canned drinks as well...

Strangely... it seems that these bottled teas with GWPs are not available everywhere... It did require some searching around as not all stores carry them...  I only wished I had more time to hunt down more...

They cost an average of S$2.50 - S$3.50 per bottle... pending on the brand...
