Drooling... literally over... Pine Garden's Cakes & Pastries

While looking at Pine Garden's display counter... loaded with different flavors of exotic cakes...

JW and I were spoilt for choice...

After promising ourselves that we can always come back again... we finally settled on 4 slices of cakes... 3 mini fruit tartlets... and 1 piece (actually 3 slices) of tapioca cake...

The mini tartlets... had soft... melt in your mouth pastry... that was buttery in taste... yet it did not overpower the taste of the filling... blueberry was our fave... with apple (actual bits of crunchy apples) being a close contender... The pineapple was alright... I will stick with traditional pineapple tarts any day... At S$0.70 each... I think I will save my money for their cakes instead...

The tapioca slices... actually tasted like tapioca!!! Nothing artificial about it... It was firm but not hard...and at S$1.50...  a must try for fans of kuehs...

Now the cakes... Not only are they pretty to look at... they are yummy too...

Pulot Hitam... coconut milk cream between layers of sponge cake... it was rich yet not coy... with the pulot hitam giving it some texture and crunch...

Citron... our fave!!!... light and tangy lemon cream... contrasted with tart lemon jam... in between... the very fragrant... balanced with just the right amount of sweetness... lemon chiffon... makes it a very refreshing cake to enjoy...

Chocolate... a disappointment... it was just plain old chocolate cake... Yes... it had a rich chocolate taste... Yes... it was not overtly sweet... Yes... it was very worthwhile for the price... But no surprises or added punch... over expectations on our part???

Lychee Martini... a perennial fave... it of course... did not disappoint...

For cakes of such quality... in this day and age... one would expect to pay at least S$4 - S$6 or more for each slice...

BUT... no...

They only cost S$2.50 per slice!!!

Yup... just S$2.50 per slice... for all the different flavors... including the liqueur ones!!!

Jean-Jacques Rosseau's... Marie Antoinette probably would not have lost her head... when she uttered her famous... "LET THEM EAT CAKE ".... if Pine Garden's was around...
